Hand-washing is best to prevent excessive wringing. 
It is perfectly normal for this garment to shrink a bit as this is a natural fabric.
Never use chlorine bleach as it will destroy the fibers and the colors.
To retain maximum shape and color pattern, the item should not be placed in the dryer. Air dry by either placing on a flat surface or hang to drip dry away from direct heat and sun.
